St Mary's Nantwich Celebration

In September, St Mary’s Nantwich Branch celebrated their 125th anniversary with a Deanery Service and Celebration Tea and the awarding of long service certificates to ten members. The service started with a procession of banners and ended with a rousing hymn, sending members out into the world to continue their work. Viv Ley, Diocesan President, awarded the certificates and cut the cakes and a member of 50 years, Ellen Matthews, gave a short talk about her experience of Mothers' Union. Those receiving certificates were Nora Bartlett (70Years). Bobbyanne Rutter (65), Lynne Marsh (45), Mary Docksey (40), Moira Smith Palmer (40), Jill Crawford (35), Audrey Foster (35), Josie Long (35), Eva Usher (30) and Dorothy Relton (25). Nantwich tied with St Barnabas Crewe as the oldest branch in Chester Diocese.

Nantwich Deanery Lady Day Service

Nantwich Deanery celebrated the Lady Day Service this year at St Barnabas Church in Crewe. All the other branches in the Deanery were represented and many of the regular congregation shared in our worship. The memorable service in this beautiful church was conducted by Father Powell and was followed by a Bring and Share lunch in the Church Hall. Members requested that the collection, to which the church added the following Sunday's collection, was donated to the South Sudan appeal, through Mothers' Union.
St Barnabas, which opened for worship in 1886, has the oldest Mothers' Union branch in the Chester Diocese; it celebrates its 125th Anniversary this year.
