A family fun day celebrating Africa was enjoyed by about 400 people on Saturday 6th August at Alderley Edge School for Girls. African dancing, singing, drumming and food tasting were experienced by young and old alike. Face painting, hair braiding, bead making, African crafts and displays from nine different African countries as well as a mosquito drive were part of the hands on activities. The centrepiece of the displays was an African village giving great authenticity to the African experience enjoyed by all who came.
The inspiration for this experience came from Mothers' Union. Around £600 was spent on Mothers' Union and Fair Trade products and generous donations amounted to over £1,000 for Mothers' Union worldwide and relief funds. 48% of our 4 million membership live in Africa caring for their communities at grassroot level.
